Interesting design for any time of the year.
The second design also good for anytime, though I would change the colours to spring colours.

Really like the first design. Would be a way to use a larger print in the border squares if you wanted to decrease applique time and then could coordinate colors from print in remainder of applique. Lovely designs and color would definitely change the feel.

There are some beautiful prints available which could be used as you say, and they usually have matching prints available, but there are always plenty of other choices.
