Curved Cornerstones 51, 52, 53, 54, 55

Interesting start to this weeks’ collection of Log Cabin designs.

Another interesting one.

Most interesting so far!

I think the one above is my favourite interesting one for the day.

Another interesting design.

Today’s collection of designs makes me wonder why a few Log Cabin quilt designs are copied over and over again. All it takes to find something different to change the design, and that is before you start playing with various Log Cabin style blocks.

That is all for this week’s Log Cabin retreat, but there will be more next week.

PS I will try to remember to hit the publish button next week!

Virtual Wholecloth Quilt 6, 7, 8

I use a lot of background quilting on applique and pieced blocks to fill in spaces around the design, but I also often use plain background for some blocks, and those are quilted with the lines of applique designs.

The cross hatching in these designs is what I use as a filler around applique, but I have left out the applique and only quilted the lines of the applique designs.

This is what the back of an applique quilt would look like, and as I love looking at the backs of quilts why not forget the applique and pieced tops, just add quilting to a large piece of fabric to make a whole cloth quilt.

X marks the spot!

Love the second design!

Note that the block used to create the designs in the centre is featured in the border of the last design. Easy to pick it in the last design, but well hidden in the other two.

EQ Mods OP 17, 18

Looks like a rather old quilt, though the layout is more modern than the fabric choices. I love looking at old stuff, and love that this looks old, even if designed on computer rather than with pencils on paper.

The second design looks like a washed out version of the first, so it not only looks old but also used. I don’t think I will try to show worn and frayed patches with computer technology!

This project file uses ten 9 Patch blocks, with modifications to colour placement, with a few lines either deleted or ignored when placing the colours.

I prefer the second design today.

9 Patch Night Vision 11, 12

Intricate and interesting!

Also intricate and interesting, and on point too, but I like the first one better.

Garden Festival 23, 24

I used this project file while demonstrating Electric Quilt at my state guild’s Festival of Quilts years ago. A very interesting experience, trying to design quilts while chatting to friends passing by, or answering questions from other people. Most of the designs saved were ones I worked on during some of the quieter moments, when people were watching what was happening on screen, rather than asking questions.

I like both of these designs, but would modify both if they were on the list to make into real quilts.

Log Jam 96, 97, 98, 99, 100

Mid week again already, so time to share some Log Cabin designs.

I like the on point square in the centre of the first design for this week.

The second one has an interesting centre, but I don’t like it a lot.

The design above looks like couple of Band-Aids covering a wound … or is it just that I need another coffee?

Not too sure what the one above now looks like. I do know that it is probably one of the few that I would not encourage anybody to make.

The last one for this week is much better. Nice to end with one I really like, and I am going to play for a little while with a couple of these to see what I can find for future posts.

That is all for this week. More Log Cabin designs mid week, next week, during a virtual short Log Cabin retreat … just enough to fill in a coffee break.

Anita’s Q’n’A 19, 20

The first one is lovely, the second one is absolutely beautiful, in my never humble opinion.

A Whiter Shade on Gold Quilted 17, 18

The hardest part of making a quilt with applique designs ‘whited out’ would be choosing the background colour, then finding a collection of fabrics for the very low contrast in the appliques.

My favourite of these two is the second!
