Baltimore to Burke

Happy Australia Day!

This is a long term project file in which I am trying to design a quilt in the style of the Baltimore quilts but with an Australian theme, but I keep adding borders so it is more a medallion quilt. The hardest part is finding background fabrics to use in a large country which has green edges but an interior which features many shades of dirt!

I do like the basket of Australian flora as the centre piece.

About Virtual Quilter

I am a quilter who designs many more quilts than I will ever make, and I am sharing one quilt design every day in Virtual Quilter. I also share my completed projects in Stuff-Ups, and Christmas decorations in Christmas Everyday of the Year.

Well done Judy. I really like the first one.

    • Nola,

Thank you. I had one of those moments when I see clearly now when I was selecting designs for this post … I need way more Aussie flora designs to play with, including botanical style drawings, wreaths etc. One more excuse for playing with applique blocks designs.

I really like the second one with so many different appliques there is a lot to keep looking at. The first one is great too as the applique pieces are definitely bigger and would be easier to do.

    • Cindy,

      Thank you.

The second one is easier to see but I used the same block size so it is little more than a table topper as designed, BUT it could easily be made with much larger blocks to become a king size quilt!
