Take a single block, leave out some pieces for a collection of blocks which coordinate perfectly in quilt designs.
The block I started with in the one top left, then three modified versions, and a quilt using the just the original block in a straight setting.
The design above has the original block in the centre, and most of the others have bits missing. You can just see the seam lines that are no longer used.
