In this months challenge I said I would show you what sort of changes you can make to a block. I started playing with block designs before I got Electric Quilt 5, but I have learned a lot about the program and block design by modify blocks from the in built library, and of course, blocks I have drawn myself.
In the top row of the virtual sampler quilt above you will find a block as it appears in the EQ Block Library.
The original was a simple cross design, which has grown to become more complex crosses, and border designs.
As if I didn’t have enough ways to modify or mutilate blocks, I have found more ways to play.
In the top left corner of the second sampler is the original block. That single flower head has grown into a garden.
Next weekend I will publish the next challenge, which will show how I manipulate the pieces to create accurate applique patterns, so that you can try creating your own collection of blocks for every part of a quilt design.
No longer will you be limited to making one block over and over 25 times. In most of my designs I now use up to about sixteen identical blocks, but to fill out the design with blocks are modified and used one, four, eight times.

Well shoot! I have yet to officially do this challenge, but I have modified and mutilated lots of blocks. 🙂

Laura,
Don’t worry … I have done a lot of mutilations and modifications this month to cover all of those who haven’t even opened Electric Quilt!
