Sub Title … Applique Playtime
Select an applique block from the EQ block library. Choose a formal style design like a wreath, a crossing design.

Change some of the shapes … make them taller or shorter, wider or thinner. the block I used above is one from my library of blocks. There are 50 plus blocks using these flower heads, including tall floral borders, wreaths and crosses. I will show you the collection at the end of the month.
Save often … you might want to come back again and set off in a new direction later.
Rearrange the shapes, delete some, see if you can design some borders to match the original block.
Try turning parts of the design into motifs to use on layer 2, or quilting stencils on layer 3.
Try to spend enough time playing with the drawing tools that you can stop thinking about what you have to do to move and modify shapes in an applique block. If you have not used the applique drawing tools a great deal, don’t worry if you don’t design anything which looks like a block you would ever want to make.
I am hoping that you will become more confident in using the applique drawing tools during the next month. Play as many times as you can for as long as you can this month.
If you do like something even a little bit, save it in your library, not just in the sketchbook … you need to practice that too.
And show me too, either here in a comment, or in the Virtual Quilt Challenge Facebook group … just answer a couple of quilt related questions and I will let you join if you are not yet a member.

If you are in a group who makes quilts together you might find this story useful.
