It is the middle of a very hot week around my place, but thankfully the power supply has been steady so the air conditioner can do it’s job, and I can spend time playing with Electric Quilt.

I have tried to cull designs from this project file, but I think they are all reasonable designs, and illustrate how small changes can make big differences to the overall look of a quilt.

These designs use just four variations of the Thick and Thin Log Cabin, and those variations are just in colour placement.

The look would change totally with a different selection of fabrics, and it would be fun to mix up several colours as well.

I am not going to choose a favourite today … too hot to tackle something that hard!

That’s all for this week … more Log Cabin designs next week, mid week.

About Virtual Quilter

I am a quilter who designs many more quilts than I will ever make, and I am sharing one quilt design every day in Virtual Quilter. I also share my completed projects in Stuff-Ups, and Christmas decorations in Christmas Everyday of the Year.

I like the combination of thick and thin Log Cabins. Usually I make my Log Cabins scrappy, but as we always say, the lights and darks make a big difference. Yes, our Summer has been full on this year. Roll on July eh?

    • Marie,

Get the contrast right and any design will work well … get them wrong and the quilt would still be useful, just not as nice to look at.

Some July weather would be lovely right now, even without a retreat!

I would be hard pressed to choose a favorite today. I also like the combo of thick and thin logs for the curves it adds to the design. It is very, very cold in Canada right now so lots of quilts are in order. Luckily for me we are in Mexico finally on holiday and enjoying very comfortable weather.

    • Cindy,

Curved Log Cabin blocks is the nearest a lot of quilters will get to real curved seams so I keep hoping to see more of them around.

Enjoy the more comfortable weather … we have had a few days of slightly cooler weather, but it is going to warm up again from today. The air conditioner has had a couple of days off to recover too, ready for the next week. Not getting as hot as it did over the last couple of weeks though.
