Probably the first challenge is to find the time, but if you beat that challenge, here goes!
Select a block from the
Electric Quilt Library … Classic Pieced … Antique Mosaics.
Add at least four seam lines, then play with colour placement. If you are brave, also delete some lines, before or after you play with colour placement.
One thing to keep in mind when playing with colour is that colour gets a lot of the credit while contrast does a lot of the work.
I selected the first Antique Mosaic block, Mosaic No 1.
The grey version from the library.
The colour version from the library.
My colour fabric choices from the default palette.
I have altered the colour placement. I like it much better like that.
Now to start some modifications. Here are my results.
Some lines added to the original block.
I rather like my new version.
Two alternative fabric placements.
And some lines deleted!
If you start with the same block as me, and work out how to make the changes I did, your next challenge is to then choose another Antique Mosaic and make your own modifications!
After that, keep altering Antique Mosaic blocks from the EQ library.
My next challenge will be to work out how to start a Face Book group!
I used mosaic 22 to modify. Replied very quickly because I happen to be already on Electric Quilt already today and already trying to remember all the exporting things. I made a very pinwheely design by adding 8 extra lines. Am saving to a folder for future use. I like the original block as well. Thanks for the prodding!

Darla,
Well done! I thought that I would have a week or so to set up a face book group, but now I am back from the two day quilt display I will have to get myself into gear!

So busy at the moment! Daughter getting married on 22nd! But will try to find the time – promise! It will be a good way to unwind at the end of a day.
Oh Boy! a Facebook Group from scratch! Good luck, it is hard enough being a Moderator… Have fun i guess it can’t be too bad – there are soooo many groups…

Toni,
I guess there will have to be some rules … no posts about ironing unless it is about ironing fabric at any stage during the making of a quilt top, no mending unless it is repairing an old quilt, and absolutely no recipes. (All chocolate must be purchased!) The hardest part at the moment is thinking of a name!

Thank you for the idea. I used mosaic block 22 and added color, then lines, then more lines. This was so fun. At one point I had your mosaic block. What a great idea you had!

Judy,
The bonus with this exercise is having a collection of blocks which just might work together in quilts. Hope you saved heaps!

Hi Judy
Thank you for creating this virtual Challenge. I started using EQ8 less than a week ago and although I am still on a steep learning curve with the software I have managed to follow along your steps for Mosaic number 1. Then experimented with some changes to Mosaic number 15.
I can’t wait for the next challenge.

Ruth,
Well done! Trying a second block is a great way to not just learn, but will help you remember the routine to change blocks … well, the pieced ones anyway.
