Applique on scrappy background.
I have never really attempted even a virtual quilt with applique motifs set at random on a pieced quilt top, but it was fun. A new time waster in the future will be converting a lot of applique blocks to motifs for play sessions like the one I had a few days ago.
One thing which surprised me was that I started with very pale, whishy-washy fabrics in the background, but made them brighter after I added the appliques.
I would quilt some butterflies and dragonflies on the areas of scrappy background not covered by appliques.
PS I just remembered the cats who tend to find their way onto quilts … including my virtual ones … I should have added one to this design!!!
I am liking this…sick of winter and want some sunshine and color!

Laura,
Thank you.
There have been a few days lately when I would have happily shared a LOT of sunshine!

This is beautiful! Inspires one to want to try making a pattern.

Florine,
This is easy with EQ, and could be a great way to spend some free time. Probably lots of free time!

Lynne,
Thank you … I love the real ones, so had to try drawing them to use in quilt designs.

Carol,
Thank you.
It was a pretty obvious omission on my part, wasn’t it! I will rectify that in the future.

I love it! Very different from your previous designs. Even I’d be tempted at this one. Can your designs be printed?

Marie,
😉 I really started something when you were tempted to do some applique!
Yes, each and every design can be printed, including something like this, though I will add a cat before I would print it!

This is the best quilt I’ve seen, since watching Virtual Quilters – it is scrappy and
elegant at the same time.

Helen,
Thank you … I have a real pile of creamy sort of fabrics which will be pieced into background blocks for applique, though more formal applique blocks than the designs on this one. however, there are enough fabrics for more than one quilt, so who knows what might happen!
