Christmas Forest Wall Quilts 7

I am wondering how I could make a 3D tree like this … have been wondering for quite a while, and no nearer a solution yet!

(As I typed that I got an idea … must make some notes … and sketches.)

  1. You could use the technique of trapunto where you overstuff that portion of the quilt with yarn to give it a 3D effect.

    • Yes, definitely, but I was thinking of a free standing tree, and logic stepped in and ruined the idea I had as I was typing. But another idea is forming itself, involving dowels or broomsticks for trunks, and simple stuffed hearts turned up side down. Sounds easy, but there are usually a few problems along the way!

        • I have seen some 3D ones, and thought this might work with the upside down hearts, but they would turn every which way, and that could be interesting, but think now they need to be on a stick of some sort … or a group of sticks … and glued so they all face the same way.

I probably spend way too much time trying to work out how to do stuff like this!
