Virtual Wholecloth Sensation 1

When teaching EQ7 workshops I tell students that they need to play with quilt design like some people play computer games.

This teacher is doing what she preaches, and she is improving her skills.

All the better for the next workshop weekend I am teaching at the Sanctuary in Bordertown  February.

I have virtually quilted and unpicked this arrangement of motifs several times this morning … and the best part is that I am thinking less about how to do it in Electric Quilt, and more about what I want the design to look like!

Jude spent time unpicking a real quilt while I was playing!

If only it was so easy to preview quilting designs in a real quilt!

The first version with all cross hatch filler looks a bit boring, and I prefer this second one …

… but what if I do some straight lines around the outside?

Closer together … much better!

Even looks good around the cross hatch filler!

About Virtual Quilter

I am a quilter who designs many more quilts than I will ever make, and I am sharing one quilt design every day in Virtual Quilter. I also share my completed projects in Stuff-Ups, and Christmas decorations in Christmas Everyday of the Year.

I like the last one as well. The straight lines really work well!

    • Cindy,

I found out about straight lines around a real quilt and it was very effective in fabric and thread, so had to give it a go in a virtual quilt!

Your whole cloth creations are fantastic. I LOVE to look at them. I didn’t know EQ could assist in designing the quilting part of the project!!! Lovely. Thanks for sharing this.

    • Averyclaire,

It has taken me a while to make up my mind that the quilting layer could be as much fun as the other layers, and it isn’t as much fun yet, but I am working my way towards having enough motifs to make it fun! At least drawing the motifs is getting easier!
