9 Patch ‘n’ Apps 1 and 2

9 Patch 'n' Apps 1

Time to share the first steps in a new series.

My colour choices seem to change every so often, and I use similar colour combinations for a while … these colours follow the theme set with the Annie Clover series, with some of the same colours also in Felicity Anderson Quilts … must be my dirty brown/purple with pink and green stage. Not a combination I would have thought would work, but I have found a combination which provides contrast … and it is the contrast which does the work.

9 Patch 'n' Apps 2

The 9 Patch blocks are from the Red and White series of quilts, but with some applique blocks added to the mix.

Change of colour and the addition of applique has transformed the blocks. I like them both ways!

Posted early … trying to get ahead for the next couple of days and got off to an early start unintentionally!

About Virtual Quilter

I am a quilter who designs many more quilts than I will ever make, and I am sharing one quilt design every day in Virtual Quilter. I also share my completed projects in Stuff-Ups, and Christmas decorations in Christmas Everyday of the Year.

I really like the second one. The combo of pieced and applique is almost always very pleasing to the eye.

    • Cindy,

I love applique, but is generally slower than piecing, so mixing the two cuts down on time spent making blocks and I get to do my favourite thing too. Loved the mixture of pieced and applique blocks way back when I started quilting making sampler quilts, which were half way between a sampler of pieced blocks and an album quilt of applique blocks.

Interesting, and I like the colour combination too. I agree with Cindy, i like how you have combined the applique and pieced blocks.
