9 Patch Pretties 1 and 2

9 Patch Pretties

While dusting in the corners of my Electric Quilt files I found a project file with some of my first virtual quilt designs using blocks I had just drawn into EQ5 … and was so excited that the scribbles on pieces of paper had become something pretty … and recognizable to other people as quilt designs..

I was setting blocks side by side most of the time, though there were a few with alternate blocks.

After deleting all the versions where i was experimenting with colours and borders and saving every little change, I was left with 10 designs.

The fabric choice reflects my daughter’s favourite colours for the first ten years of her life, and are very similar to the Basically Hugs and Primrose Sands ranges which will hit the shelves later this year.

(The designer of those ranges, Helen Stubbings, has a new book coming out soon too!)

About Virtual Quilter

I am a quilter who designs many more quilts than I will ever make, and I am sharing one quilt design every day in Virtual Quilter. I also share my completed projects in Stuff-Ups, and Christmas decorations in Christmas Everyday of the Year.

  1. I like the use of the curved block (Drunkard’s Path) in the first design. You’ve managed to nicely frame the star with very little effort. 🙂

Interesting choice of colours. I like the borders you have chosen as well. They both look better close up, you get a better picture of them. Love that curved inner border, maybe because it’s not so fiddly.

    • Marie,

At the moment I am off borders … I spent yesterday trying to tidy up the borders in my EQ library, and discovered just how much my drawing in EQ skills have improved! At least the old drawings look OK in virtual quilts, but in real quilts the patterns would require a lot of fudging to make things meet properly. I think the ones in this series may have been some of the better ones though!

I like the colors and my daughter I know would love them as well. I also really like the curved inner border. It is beautiful.
