Chrysanthemums and Old Lace

Chrysanthemums and Old Lace 1

Owing to the fact that I had allowed two days for the Wedding Fan  and White Wedding series to both have separate project files for straight and on point settings I have a break in scheduling . I have been going through the vault and bringing out a different project file every day for over two months and sharing one, sometimes more, virtual designs from each file.

This weekend I have nothing listed, so I went even further into the vault and brought out a pair of rather fanciful designs which I did just for fun several years ago. Both are destined to provide a couple of patterns after some modifications.

I think this one would be about lap size.

Somebody else is playing with Electric Quilt and getting some great results.

About Virtual Quilter

I am a quilter who designs many more quilts than I will ever make, and I am sharing one quilt design every day in Virtual Quilter. I also share my completed projects in Stuff-Ups, and Christmas decorations in Christmas Everyday of the Year.

  1. I love the center; I think that is very pretty, but I’m just not crazy about the border.

  2. Very different. I like the quiet elegance, especially in the outer blocks/border. Can’t wait to see what else is in this file.

    • Liz,

I didn’t go looking too far, but think there is some better designs in there … and others which need work. It is a different sort of challenge when I design some applique blocks which don’t quite fit the norm and then try to work out how to use them most effectively.

Loving the look of the border …….looks like wrought iron gates…..

    • Sally,

Guess what I traced from! I love wrought iron on buildings and take lots of photos, but don’t copy exactly, then try to mkae it go around quilts rather than verandahs and balconies.

  4. Judy,
This is absolutely stunning! The old lace feel is spot on…so very intricate…I keep going back to it and trying to figure “how” to construct this quilt. It would make a lovely wallhangings, especially in an older Victorian home…paper piecing might be the way to go!

    • Thank you.

The blocks are drawn up as applique … all the curves would lead to some minuscule pieces for piecing of any sort … I just had a close up look at the blocks in the project file! I had a little play while I was there, but don’t tell anyone!

    Lovely design Judy!

This pattern is outstanding! Did you draw all the elements of the border blocks?
