Te fabric choice in this series is not particularly attractive, but it is great in that it shows clearly how the contrast should work in any Log Cabin design, virtual or real.
You can use the same fabrics throughout all the blocks, or use a multitude of scraps … but for the design to shine you need good contrast. Colour gets the credit, but contrast does the work in any design and in any art.
Now there is something you can do … go to the EQ Blog …
to see the next step in a project I am working on as one of the EQ Gurus.
I have been selecting fabrics … from a huge range and all free to use … in the EQ Fabric Library.
Not quite like a real quilt shop, but close!
And don’t miss a chance to win a copy of Judy Martin’s Star Power add-on for Electric Quilt, and down load a copy of one of my project files.
Read all about how you select your fabric. I do much the same but I always, always, always end up with many hundreds of swatches. I have to learn how to prune better. Still liking these logs lots. Lots and lots of ideas.

Karen,
I am getting better at selecting only a hundred or so fabrics … but still have to find more when I start working with them!
I probably need to start a new series every day or two to improve my virtual fabric shopping skills!

Great post on selecting fabric. I also choose a color scheme and go fabric shopping in the library. It is really hard to get it down to just a few. Light, dark and medium values…the contrast…is definitely key to a successful design! I’m not always successful. LOL!
