The basic Nine Patch block is easy to make into quilts with or without sashing.
It is also a great block to show the changes which can be made using contrast or value.
In the design above the lines between individual Nine Patch blocks are blurred because some of the fabrics blend together.
In the second design the usual checkerboard arrangement of value is tweaked to create a square within a square, with sashing separating the individual blocks.
Tweaking the fabric choices again, and now the sashing appears to be part of the design rather than separating the blocks.
It is all about knowing the value of the fabrics you use!
(And nothing to do with the price.)
