X marks the spot!

Notice how the shape of the plain blocks expand into the joining blocks, blurring the lines between blocks so that the blocks are important in the construction of the quilt, but disappear in the overall quilt design.

This could work as a part scrap quilt. Use the same background throughout, and use lots of light fabrics randomly … and perhaps add some brights as highlights, but place them less randomly so they are scattered evenly.

About Virtual Quilter

I am a quilter who designs many more quilts than I will ever make, and I am sharing one quilt design every day in Virtual Quilter. I also share my completed projects in Stuff-Ups, and Christmas decorations in Christmas Everyday of the Year.

These colors are just so dramatic. Really makes your design show up.

Hi Judy – really like this series, and especially the second quilt you show here. I like your suggestion for making it a scrap quilt. There always needs to be a thread of consistency when undertaking putting lots of odd bits together.

    • Donna,

Thank you. It is hard to find a bad design with these colours and blocks.

The best scrap quilts usually have some consistency, (great word, Donna) …. either the scraps are colour cordinated, …. or an accent colour is used consistently throughout the design …. or the same background fabric throughout …. or at least one border in a solid or near solid complimentary colour which unifies the scraps.

Mmmmm yummy. Even if it is black it makes me think of good dark chocolate and coffee and caramel. Good inspiration for quilts for guys.
