Red and White Intro Sampler

Living in Australia made it a bit difficult to get to the recent exhibition of red and white quilts in USA, so I started playing in Electric Quilt … I need to do something while I wait for the book.

Here are a couple of links just in case you missed the show like me, and missed the references which blanketed the web while it was happening.

Back to my red and white series, starting with the sampler.

I selected 10 blocks from my collection of Nine Patch block designs, and added red and white fabrics … I couldn’t quite handle plain red and plain white, so selected a white with a tiny touch of contrast, and a red with quite a big dark floral design.

Two of the designs begged for a slight variation in colouring, so I have included them in the mix.

So, let us have a look at the basic blocks in a straight set, no sashing.

I can’t find names for any of these blocks … if you don’t know either, perhaps you can suggest one.

The block above I think is my favourite block in the series … I have the advantage of knowing how this block works when alternated with the others.

Like the one above too!

Boy, that last one changes character when used side by side!

Come back tomorrow for the next instalment of red and white quilts.

About Virtual Quilter

I am a quilter who designs many more quilts than I will ever make, and I am sharing one quilt design every day in Virtual Quilter. I also share my completed projects in Stuff-Ups, and Christmas decorations in Christmas Everyday of the Year.

Loved the show, and like you there was no way to see it in person. And, Judy, I like your choices of blocks for this project – what a great plan! Thank you for showing us what the blocks look like one at a time. I will be waiting for the next installment with great anticipation!!

    • Donna,

I couldn’t get past admiring the staging of the event to look at the quilts themselves properly … will have to wait for the book to concentrate on the quilts.

(In another life I helped hang art exhibitions, and wish I had thought of something like this to display some works.)
