Quilting Season 1

It has been a while since I introduced a new series … have been trying to keep them all rotating so you get to see something from every series every few weeks!

However, I have been playing with the blocks from the EQ block library in the sampler above …..

…… and these quilting designs, some of them from the EQ library, others modified to suit the blocks.

So, what if  …… I design a quilt layout …..

and a cross hatched quilting design ….

….. which is pretty boring as an all over design on its own!

But, combine the two ……

….. and it’s not too bad!

The quilting doesn’t compete with the quilt top for attention, it doesn’t add any extra design elements because there isn’t any open space to show off the quilting, and it is in scale with the pieced design elements. There is a little room for a different filler in the pieced blocks in the corners, providing it is just a filler …. there isn’t room for feathered wreaths or flowing ferns. (Well, there is room for some, but they would soon start detracting from the quilt top design, so I wouldn’t go there!)

I am trying to work out how strong to make the colour of the quilting thread …. in real life I would use a thread which matches the background …. if I use that in the virtual world it would be pretty much invisible.

The slightly darker above looks ok in EQ, but is a bit hard to see on the blog … click on the quilts to get a closer look.

I think I need something between the black and the one which matches the background!

Come back tomorrow to see another virtual quilt, and another virtual quilting design or two!

You have my permission to fill in the time between now and then to do some quilting!

Though there is a good bit of reading about choosing fabric on Terificreations before you go.

About Virtual Quilter

I am a quilter who designs many more quilts than I will ever make, and I am sharing one quilt design every day in Virtual Quilter. I also share my completed projects in Stuff-Ups, and Christmas decorations in Christmas Everyday of the Year.
