My very first virtual quilt was
(Well to be technical, the first virtual quilt I shared as the Virtual quilter)
Since then the project file has been sitting in the computer, and didn’t even get opened and saved in Electric Quilt 6 …. it was still a EQ5 file.
It wasn’t broke, but when I found it while converting EQ6 files to EQ7 I decided to see if I could do anything more with the concept.
Don’t know that I fixed anything other than getting rid of those birds, but now I have a huge file of virtual quilts which has been called After Pompeii.
Double Wedding ring blocks have been combined with the decorative tile blocks,
and I have added some variations of them as well as adding a pretty fan block
Even the flowers which came in the fan block have been borrowed to use with other elements, and later you will see them in flower blocks.
I think it was worth having another play.
If you make a really nice comment I will send you the EQ7 project file with all the blocks and the first three virtual quilts as shown above.

I love the 3rd one…grin. You do amaze me.
I finally played on my EQ7 as you suggested. I loaded The Farmer’s Wife EQ blocks and am coloring them in Wiscasset to see how I like it. I do like it in this fabric, but I think I need to add some more colors.

I think these quilts are great i love the use of colour. If these were your first quilt wow i have a long way to go. I would love a copy of the file maybe i could learn a thing or two.

The best way to learn is to play ….. do it often for a month and you will be surprised at how much you learn about EQ7 and about designing quilts.

Great designs Judy and such bold colours too! lol (not the usual pink and green you say you’re so fond of) I’m liking the second design too but I don’t think I’d have the patience to make one. Perhaps if I practiced my machine applique skills and put another 5 or 6 hours into each day.

It’s not pretty pink and green but there are some hints of pink and green!
I don’t think I would have the patience to make one either, but they are good designs and worth showing off ….. in my opninion anyway!

Well, Judy, I too love the second design. The applique is so delicate. I love the combination of elements you used. The change I’d make, is less contrast with the double wedding rings in the first one. The second one is a treasure. I particularly like the centre block. I would love to have the EQ files – thank you so much!

Thank you. Perhaps less contrast would look better, but I am trying to avoid too many varations in the blocks as there is a growing number of different blocks in the file as you will see.

I am going to break with others and say I like the 1st one the best. I love the blue outside on the quilt and the white space in the middle.
I have yet to really delve into EQ7 (still), but in a few weeks there is a class I hope to take on it and that will help me feel more comfortable. I know if I just sit down and play, like you’re suggesting, it would make sense to me.

Always a rebel in the crowd ….. which is why quilters make such a wonderful variety of quilts!
Doing a class would be a help, but set asside extra time to play between lessons.

I too love the second design…you continue to amaze me with your virtual designs….I have EQ6, time isn’t on my side at the moment but one of these days I will buckle doen and learn how to use it properly…

There is nothing really difficult in these quilts …… they look much more complex than they are. They are made up of 12 inch blocks, and can be machine or hand pieced and appliqued. They may be time consuming but that is only because there is a lot of pieces to get around in some blocks, but they are not miniscule pieces. Once you know how to piece and applique you can do any blocks.

I don’t have a problem chosing a favourite, but I do change my mind about which one is a favourite quite often! Sometimes they are the favourite for an hour, sometimes a day, rarely longer than a week or so.

Hi Judy, I haven’t gotten to check my email for weeks so I am sitting here on a Sat nite watching the GB Packer , going through all of my Virtual emails. Its like Christmas , going from one design of yours to the next. This one is beautiful , the second one is the best but there is something about the placement of the fans in the third quilt that I really love. It really makes the quilt stand out to me. I love them back to back like that. Awesome designing

I’m getting caught up with my blog reading, and this post stopped me in my tracks. LOL! The way you’ve combined those fans with the decorative tile motif has started my muse thinking. Is the motif in EQ7’s libraries?

Oooh! It is nice to make people sit up and take notice sometimes!
All the basic elements were in EQ5 …. I have done a little bit of modifying in EQ7 to tidy things up a little and the delete parts of blocks and re-use them in new ways.
I learned a lot about drafting blocks, particularly applique, by modifying blocks I found in the block library.
