Introducing a new series of designs ……. a couple of weeks ago I asked for some ideas for the series name. The people who commented all thought of words I had running around my head. This is about what it looked like when I asked about the name.
Vicki suggested Spring, which sort of worked except that it is autumn here in Australia, so she suggested Autumn Days. Marta wanted gold … don’t we all ….. but more importantly she saw something I didn’t notice until I went on a day trip, and was visually reminded of the dirt and dust part of our autumn.
I added some brown to the fabric choices, but didn’t delete any of the fabric I had already selected, leaving room to play with the fabrics over time.
So, the name reflects the colours of autumn in Australia …… dry grass and burnt plants, the last summer flowers and the first winter flowers, new grass and new shoots on evergreen trees and shrubs, the dust of summer not yet washed away by winter rain, and the freshly worked land being prepared for planting of winter crops. Add a few splashes of autumn leaves on deciduous trees.
The blocks are an assorted collection of my designs. The fabrics within blocks will change, and both straight and on point settings will be used. I am still playing with borders, so they may or may not change!
Are they going to work together?
I am happy with them …… but that could be because I am happy it is autumn, the heat of summer is over for the time being, the garden is starting to recover from sun burn, and all is well in my world!
And daylight saving ended overnight! I grew up on a farm and my body clock works with the sun, not daylight saving.
The colours are rather spring like too for those living the other side of the equator.
By the way, Glynis has been playing with the last new series I started here when I offered others the chance to play along. Today’s offering is here, but if you haven’t checked out her blog in the last couple of days go to Patchwork Maniac and scroll down to see all of her recent additions.
