Log Cabin + DK 1 …… and 2

Last week I showed a couple of quilts with all light blocks, this week I am adding whole dark blocks. I have found some stunning designs, some nice, some I have deleted ….. but not before I saved the whiole lot to a new file and added some light blocks as well. Show some of them next week.

I found that adding just the dark blocks made the quilts very dark. Well, duh!

Enough dark is OK, too much is waaay tooo much!

Adding the plain blocks though does make a design less busy. It gives the eye somewhere to rest and relax. And in the design above it makes you focus on the light areas, which is, after all, where the focal point is.

This one has the light higfhlights in the corner, making the centre less of the focal point. I think it works for me ….. what about you? You can tell me what you would do in a comment, but more importantly, work out what you would like. Take a little step towards designing your own quilts, or at least adding some personal touches to any pattern you use.

That’s it, until next week!

About Virtual Quilter

I am a quilter who designs many more quilts than I will ever make, and I am sharing one quilt design every day in Virtual Quilter. I also share my completed projects in Stuff-Ups, and Christmas decorations in Christmas Everyday of the Year.

Thank you for sharing these!!! I look forward to seeing your new designs every week. I like the first dark one for my son. His high school colors next year are dark green and gold.

      Tasha,

Thank you for coming and having a look!

I was thinking that these two loked rather masculine …….. and for at least one person I got the colours right!

Don’t forget to send me a photo so I can add it to a future Virtual Exhibition page.
