Told you a few days ago that I had a new idea which I wanted to play with …………… well, it worked rather well in my never humble opinion. What if …………. the rings in the virtual Double Wedding Ring variations are more like the gold bands we exchange in real wedding ceremonies?

Sometimes a simple idea turns into gold!

It’s a bit like waving a magic wand! Or throwing fairy dust about the place. Or even finding the pot of gold at the end of a rainbow. I think I am in love …………. I think I might have to make one of these for our bed sometime before our Golden Wedding Anniversary. I’ve got 15 years, so it is achievable!

Doesn’t the light border make a difference? It shows that the dark outer border/binding is too wide, but other than that …… I like it.

Think I like this arrangement of blocks more, but now I can see that the outer border/binding is too wide here too.

I can also see the missed bit of sashing which I didn’t mean to miss!

A very nice couple designed by simply replacing some Double Wedding Ring blocks with appliqué blocks, and only using part of the wedding rings in other blocks.

I like the first one best ……. and I have just had another thought which I am going to have to play with. Enjoy this while I go play!

If it works, you will see it here one day. If it doesn’t you will never hear about it again!

No, not the white dress and bloke in a suit type event.

It’s just that another old favourite quilt design has been given a virtual make-over.

The usual setting in Christmassy colours……………….

………………….. then tipped onto the diagonal for a bit of variety.

Anyone who has followed this Virtual Quilter for any time at all will know that I never stop there!

Add a block or two or more to the straight setting ………………….

…………… and that’s all for today, folks, but there will be more between now and Christmas Day, and maybe beyond.

This is all because I deleted what I was going to show you!

Those swirling thingies are interesting, but not something I would like to live with, but I love the cross formed by the stars in the centre.

This one is rather restrained, and easier to live with for me, but maybe a bit too restrained to be interesting enough to turn it into a real quilt.

Pretty and dainty, but the design looks unfinished somehow.

(Ha! As if any of these virtual quilts are ever finished!)

Despite the colours this one looks almost masculine, especially compared to the first of today’s offerings.

Nice one.

The more appliqué designs I do the more I like some open space between them so that individual block designs can be appreciated. The more quilts I make the more I like spaces to be quilted. The blocks in these designs have enough space between them for some background quilting, but are close enogh to create a pattern over the whole quilt top.

I like it like that!

That is what someone searched for and found themselves here.

The easiest way to get one of these is to make a light coloured quilt,

then give it to a three year old who loves mud.

Allow to dry and you are done.

I thought I would add this information in case they come back.

Because I deleted all my Electric Quilt project files, and had not backed up the more recent ones I have created a new project file using the same layout as the My Christmas Aunt series, but with different blocks to fill some places between now and Christmas Day.

I my never humble opinion it is not working as well as My Christmas Aunt, so perhaps I should look for some of the blocks I used in that series and try again sometime.

In the meantime here is something I prepared earlier ….. in one of the files I did back up!

Designed more for a table than a bed, and it could be used anytime of the year.

Interesting centre! What does it look like with a few more isolated squares around the centre?

And put a few isolated squares in the blank spaces around the outside too. Between the two I probably changed the first to the second in two or three steps, and saved the ones in between as well.

There is not a lot of difference between these two designs, but they are a good example of how I design lots of quilts in a short time. In this example I have made a minor change to the overall design to create the second one, and if I was trying to design a quilt to actually make I would choose the one I liked most.

And then make a few more changes to see if I could make it better.

Playing with a design on the computer allows me to save heaps of slight variations which I can then look at again and keep modifying until I have the best design possible.

Much quicker than rearranging blocks on a design wall, though nowhere near as much exercise!
