I love mixing traditional designs … in this case, Double Wedding Ring, which is well known, and String of Beads, which is rarely mentioned.
I can sort of understand why it isn’t all that well known, because it first appeared in the 1930s, when all applique was done by hand using one of many techniques … but always by hand.
After I became accustomed to using the new fusible web I had some scraps of fabric with webbing fused onto it and a scrap of time, so I had a bit of a play … made a small table runner.
Eazy peazy … fused the little leaf shapes into place, machined around them with a smallish zigzag stitch in a neutral colour. Nothing hard about that! I stitched along one side of a row, then back the other side.
Tried a bigger project, no problems, then tried another project fused and button hole stitched by hand with black Perle thread … I don’t mind hand work, and buttonhole with a heavy thread is the easiest handwork.
However, even thinking about turning all those points … one every two inches … was a turn off with needle turn and other variations of hand applique … you would have to be keen!
Those of you who follow this blog by email or WordPress or any of the RSS readers have just got a preview of a project file which will not be visible to the rest of the world until the 25th of July. Two people got to see it on Facebook too! Don’t tell anybody!
